Brief updated profile of Delhi University
 The University of Delhi is one of the three big universities in the city, JNU and Jamia Islamia being the two others. The university is spread out in two campus areas, both located close to the Ridge crossing Delhi from northeast to southwest. The North Campus, north of Old Delhi and the Civil Lines, is the major one with most of the departments and schools, and also the place where the Vice-Chancellor’s office is located (in the Viceregal Lodge, the heritage building where the last British Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten resided till August 1947. It is a complete university, with education from BA level to postgraduate studies.
- In 1922,when DU was established, only three colleges existed namely: St.Stephen’s College(1881),Hindu College(1899) and Ramjas College (1917).
- The university had a modest beginning with two faculties,Arts and Science and about 750 students.
- In October 1933,The university offices and the library shifted to the Vice regal Lodge Estate,and till today this site is the nucleus of the university(main campus).
- At present,there are 14 faculties,86 academic departments and 79 colleges spread all over the city,with about 2,20,000 students.
- When the university Grants commission started establishing Centre of Advance studies in the country,six were awarded to DU out of a total of 18 such centres in the early ‘60s .These were physics,Chemistry, botany,zoology,economics and sociology.
- To cope up with this expansion, the university in the early 70s , initiated a multi-campus concept.Thus,the South Campus made a beginning in 1973 by starting postgraduate programmes in some departments of the faculty of Arts and Social sciences, in a rented building.The campus acquired land near Dhaula Kuan where the building of Arts Faculty was first constructed.Offices and teachingactivities shifted to thi campus in 1983.
- The university has 15 libraries.These are in addition to libraries in constituent colleges
- The University Science Instrumentation Centre(USIC) has a number of sophisticated research instruments,which are used by several departments of the university and by other institutions in Delhi and its neighbourhood.
- Currently,at DU,access to electronic resources is provided to 2,25,000 students,7000 faculty members and 4,100 researchers.(Edited :Toi,Delhi)
 Various streams exist in Delhi University under different faculties. Alphabetically the faculties can be listed as – Arts, Ayurvedic & Unani Medicine, Commerce & Business Studies, Education, Int. Disp. & Applied Sciences, Law, Main University, Management Studies, Mathematical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Music & Fine Arts Science, Social Sciences, Technology and Undergraduate courses.

LAW FACULTY AT DELHI UNIVERSITY
The Law Faculty was established at Delhi University (DU) in 1924. It was initially housed in the Prince's Pavilion in the Old Vice regal Lodge Grounds. In 1963, the faculty moved to its present location at the Chhatra Marg, University of Delhi, Delhi.
