This year the colleges witnessed a colourful trials in ECA quota applications. Especially, music and dances catch the show in trials in various colleges. The colleges' authorities say that we receive the maximum number of applications for music category and it is relatively easier to find good singers and musicians. It is a little difficult to find students who are good in debate or really good in creative writing.But, as dances and music concern authorities were enthusiastic too.It may be mentioned that Instrumental and vocal music is the hottest choice among aspirants, while the girls applying to colleges are mostly in to singing ,the boys are all about guitars and percussion. As we know that every colleges celebrate annual fests, so the need of good dancers and melodious singers are always in demands. So, the colleges looking out for such talents to showcase them at their college fests and also at the various inter-college and inter universities competitions. so, the colleges accept maximum number of applications for music category.The other hot categories ,which aspirants apply for ,are dramatics, debating and elocution. Salsa and tango might be the spice of the season in the capital ,but in D.U the emphasis is still on Indian classical dances.Some colleges encourage the students to practice Indian Classical dances.South Campus' prestigious Sri Venkateswara college is one such college,which prefers classical dances rather than Salasa or rock.
Bot,Just being a bath room singer or an occasional hip-shaker will not help ypu tp go any where. Solid knowledge and a strong back- ground are important factor to get in to good colleges and chosen course in the University. The college authority, though ,gets plenty of applicants yet they search for good dancers and musicians with well practiced and long-time training back ground.
